Head of Singapore Office and partner Jean-Louis Neves Mandelli (Singapore–Project Development & Finance) spoke at two panel sessions focusing on power generation at Enlit Asia in Bangkok on September 20–22.

Jean-Louis moderated the “Regional Power Producers’ Decarbonisation Goals Amidst a Recovering ASEAN Economy” panel on September 21 and discussed with his fellow panelists the balancing act between decarbonizing and managing the cost of and reliability of power supply, as well as efficiently using existing assets. Topics included:

  • Adapting traditional power plants to modern energy systems to ensure efficiency and lowering opex
  • Coping with fluctuating power generated
  • Integrating BESS into plant development plans
  • Managing interval reduction and the flexibility demanded by regulators and grid owners
  • The importance of gas power in flexible power systems

Jean-Louis was also a panelist on the “Energy Storage Systems as an Enabler of RE Integration & Grid Modernisation Strategies” panel on September 22 which covered the following topics:

  • Updating regulatory policy and market design to enable storage potential – what is needed?
  • Where is the future of BESS in ASEAN grid scale/prosumers?
  • Are subsidies the answer? Overcoming the price perception challenge
  • Business models support BESS adoption by ASEAN utilities
  • What technologies are improving efficiency, lifetime and ROI?

Enlit Asia was held in conjunction with Sustainable Energy Technology Asia (SETA) & Solar+Storage Asia (SSA) which brought together as many as 10,000 industry leaders from Thailand and across ASEAN to address topics of strategic and commercial importance to the region’s power value chain.
