Partner Laurence Crouch (Menlo Park-Tax) was quoted in an article, titled “Real Estate Legislation to Watch in the Second Half of 2016,” that was published on July 1 in Law360.

The article discusses the future of the EB-5 foreign investment visa program, real estate investment trust spinoffs and conversions, and commercial MBS risk retention rules -- developments in real estate legislation and regulation that lawyers will be watching in the second half of 2016. Crouch weighed in on real estate investment trusts, which have been particularly active the last several years. “I think we will still see REIT conversions. We just will not see C corps converting some of their assets into REIT form and doing a spin-off,” Crouch said. “Some C corps can still convert to REITs. C corps can also have subsidiary REITs and issue stock in those subsidiary REITs,” he added.
