Shearman & Sterling was named one of the top 20 global law firms for the ninth consecutive year, according to Law360.

In an article on the firm, Law360 notes: “After spending half a century establishing itself as a global stalwart, with offices spread across North America, South America, Asia and Europe, the 855-attorney firm, which says it’s always expanding, is now looking to grow its practices within the U.S.”

The article highlights some of the major matters the firm has worked on during the past year, including advising Ecopetrol on its joint venture with Occidental Petroleum Corporation to develop 97,000 acres in West Texas; Liberty Global on the approximately $22.7 billion sale of its operations in Germany, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic to Vodafone Group; and Raytheon on its merger with United Technologies, one of the largest mergers of 2019.

Law firms are included in the Global 20 based on five factors: the percentage of the firm’s attorneys located outside its home country; the number of offices outside the firm’s home country; the number of countries where the firm has at least one office; the practice area breadth of the firm’s cross-border and international work; and the size and complexity of the firm’s cross-border and international work.
