S&P Global Platts honored Enel Green Power’s $1 billion project financing for the Villanueva and Don José solar photovoltaic portfolio in Mexico with the “Corporate Deal of the Year” award at an event held on December 12 at Cipriani South Street in New York.

Shearman & Sterling acted as lenders’ counsel for BBVA Bancomer, S.A., Caixabank S.A., MUFG Bank Ltd., Natixis – New York Branch, Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior S.N.C., European Investment Bank, Inter-American Investment Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank. 

The transaction is a hybrid portfolio financing of three solar photovoltaic assets (with Villanueva being the largest solar power plant in the Americas) and qualified as a “green loan.” Without a doubt this is one of the region’s most important closed deals in the green domain.
