Susanna Charlwood

Susanna Charlwood is a partner in Shearman & Sterling’s Litigation Group in London.  She has broad experience in the litigation and arbitration of commercial disputes with a particular focus on banking and finance related matters, including restructuring and insolvency situations.

Susanna has represented a number of leading corporates and financial institutions in high profile and high value disputes frequently involving concurrent proceedings in more than one jurisdiction.  She also acts for financial institutions and corporates involved in domestic and international regulatory investigations and enforcements, both civil and criminal. 

Selected Experience

  • Acting for Cargolux International Airlines, S.A. in multiple follow on damages claims in the High Court.
  • Undertaking a major investigation into sanctions compliance at a leading European banking group.
  • Representing a group of investment funds in connection with the resolution of Banco Espίrito Santo.
  • Undertaking numerous internal investigations into corruption concerns including advising on exposure under the UK Bribery Act and representing parties in dealings with the Serious Fraud Office.
  • Advising holders of subordinated notes issued by the Co-operative Bank in connection with its restructuring and scheme of arrangement.
