Sanctions & Export Controls Conference 2023

  • Amsterdam

Partner Mike Walsh (Washington, DC - Litigation, CFIUS) participated in Kisaco Research’s Sanctions & Export Controls Conference on May 15–16, 2023, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. On May 15, Mike served as a speaker in a roundtable titled, “How to Safeguard the Company, Its Brand and Reputation,” which addressed the latest practical challenges companies face with respect to compliance with evolving and at times conflicting multijurisdictional sanctions and export controls.

On May 16, Mike moderated a panel titled, “Complex-Conflicting-Extraterritorial: Steering Between U.S. and China Sanctions and Export Controls.” The panel discussed the following items:

  • Stepping up U.S. sanctions and export control measures: What FIs and multinationals can and can’t do.
  • Clarifying China’s position on foreign export controls and sanctions: Compliance prohibited, or compliance encouraged?
  • China’s legacy technology import and export control: Threat or opportunity for exporters?
  • China’s Counter-Foreign Sanctions Law: Expect the unexpected?
  • U.S. Industrial Policy legislation: What’s been done, what’s in store, and how to prepare for it.
  • XPCC related designations: Uncovering and managing potential secondary sanctions and export controls exposure.
  • Risks of dealing with parties designated under U.S. sanctions captured by EU Blocking Statute.
