Shearman & Sterling’s Alan Goudiss and Christopher LaVigne, two of the leaders of the firm’s Sports Group, recently presented a CLE webcast at Thomson Reuters titled “White Collar Investigations and Sports Law: Conducting an Effective Sports Investigation.” Goudiss and LaVigne discuss the unique set of challenges that sports organizations face when conducting internal investigations into allegations of wrongdoing and the public release of their findings. They highlight some of these challenges and considerations and draw comparisons to white collar investigations. They also describe the “new normal,” review recent high-profile sports investigations and identify best practices for conducting these types of investigations.
