Four offshore wind farms projects, off the French Channel and Atlantic coasts, have been awarded following the first public call for tender initiated by the French government in April 2012. The farms should be operational by 2018. In the meantime, these projects will have to pass several additional administrative steps, including an ongoing “risks lifting” procedure, and obtain various regulatory authorizations. The article describes the current projects retained following the call for tender, the required regulatory authorizations and the applicable feed-in tariffs and taxes to this new type of energy.
