Opportunities and Pitfalls of Proposed Easing of Iran Sanctions

On November 23, 2013, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States) and Germany (P5+1) reached an incremental and interim Joint Plan of Action that proposes suspending certain sanctions targeting Iran. Any proposed sanctions relief will not be in effect until Iran fulfills certain verifiable measures to limit its nuclear program. In this interim period, while we wait and see whether Iran will take the verifiable steps that are required, we analyze the potential impact and limitations on the proposed sanctions relief and provide next steps and practical tips for U.S. and non-U.S. companies contemplating future business in Iran.
